Single in the City
Is being single in the City a bad "Sex & the City" episode waiting to happen? "Leftover" parties, post-it breakups, speed dating, online personals - you name it, one of my friends has tried it. When did dating become so orchestrated? What happened to simple boy meets girl and live happily ever after?
With all the complexities of dating in the 21st century, I must admit the thought of a matchmaker is sounding more and more appealing. Just show up, look cute and someone else does all the work? Sign me up!
In all seriousness, it would be nice to just make a list of qualities, place your order and have Mr. Right show up at your door. So if anyone's taking orders, here's my list:
1. Truthful, trustworthy and honest - if the boy's sleeping in my bed, I want to know I can trust him with my heart.
2. Fun to be around (drunk and sober - unfortunately, too many fall only in the first category)
3. Sweet, nice and caring
4. Affectionate, but not necessarily in the PDA kind of way
5. Athletic - if I know more about baseball than he does, then forget about it. And if he can train me to run a sub 3:40 then even better.
Now, on to the superficial stuff:
6. Tall (6 feet +, or even 5'10" will do) - I need to give my future kids a fitting chance. I'm sure it pisses off the 5'8"+ women when they see a 5 foot woman with a 6 foot guy, but I'm really trying to do a civic service by ridding future generations of short men.
7. "Decent" looking - He could be ugly in the traditional sense, but as long as I think he's adorable, that's all that matters.
8. Medium to heavy build - I'd much prefer overweight than underweight.
9. Pretty eyes are a plus.
10. Successful - I don't care what he makes, but I do care what he does. For all I care, he can become my househusband, but I want to know that he choose to do that because he's family focused and not because he's lazy.
So if you see my Mr. Right out there, send him my way.
Happy Hunting.
